Wang Yu?    Yu Wang?   or Yu?

    There is always a problem about how to call me. Some people call me "Yu"; others call me "Yu Wang". However, you can also hear the others call me "Wang Yu". So what is my name?

    Offically, "Wang" is my family name and "Yu" is my given name, so my passport shows my name as Yu Wang. However, in China and Taiwan's tradition (as well as those countries whose culture had been deeply influenced by China), we always put the last name in front of the first name. As the result, before I came to the "Western World", I am used to call myself "Wang Yu" for almost 27 years.

    Also, since my last name is very short and sound similar to "you", if you just call me "Yu" in public, probably more than 5 people would think that you want talk to them.. As the result, only use "Yu" is not a good idea to me.

    So, next time, when you want to call me, you can call me "Wang Yu", "Yu Wang" or just "Yu", but I will probably only reponse when people call me "Wang Yu" (just kidding).
