Bentonite from Clay Spur, WY. A 5.4 mg change in mass from a 46.4 mg sample corresponds to an initial water content of 11.6 weight percent of the day of this experiment. Interlayer water is lost below 200 C while structurally bound "hydroxyl" water is lost from the montmorillonite near 700 C.
