I work with Jeroen Tromp and Hiroo Kanamori on studying the source of very large earthquakes. We use the Spectral Element Method (SEM) to compute synthetic seismograms for 3D Earth models and complex source models. I am looking at several earthquakes, in each case estimating parameters important to understanding the rupture process of earthquakes. I am also interested in the effect of 3D structure on our estimates.
