The
spectral-element method (SEM) is also applied on a regional scale
to
simulate seismic wave propagation in southern California. The
following
links demonstrate that simulations based upon a detailed sedimentary
basin model and an accurate numerical technique produce generally
nice
waveform fits between the data and 3-D synthetics. On the other
hand,
remaining discrepancies between the data and synthetics can be
utilized
to update the velocity model based upon a structural inversion,
or the
source parameters based upon a centroid moment-tensor (CMT) inversion.
