Meshing the Globe: Tetrahedral mesh for a portion of the mantle. The top surface is the free surface, and the bottom surface the CMB. The mesh is finer near the surface, where the ice load is located. We use a finite-volume method developed and implemented by Konstantin Latychev to numerically simulate the effects of post-glacial and post-seismic rebound.
We are collaborating with Professor Jerry Mitrovica at the University of Toronto on the implementation of numerical method to simulate post-glacial and post-seismic rebound in laterally heterogeneous Earth models. In particular the effects of crustal and lithospheric thickness and lateral variations in viscosity are of importance. Konstantin Latychev, postdoc is currently working on this problem. HOME
