Class Schedule, Ge211, Winter 2011
Class meetings are Tuesdays from 9 to 10 in 162 South Mudd. The final classroom class is Feb. 15. No class after that because of field work. Class topics: 1. General introduction to the project - geography, seismometer locations (Jan. 5, in the GIS lab) 2. Seismometers, refraction and reflection techniques, special considerations for active-source projects. Overview of permanent network stations in the vicinity of the project (SCSN and CSMIP) and types of data they record. (Jan 25) 3. Examples of previous active-source projects (Parkfield, LARSE II); similarities and differences to SSIP; methods for picking arrivals and determining velocity models. (Feb. 1) 4. Overview of Texan data loggers, experiment setup, working with sample Texan data files with PQL II software. (Feb. 8) 5. TBA (Feb. 15) .. Field trip: You can go to the field for one week or 2 weeks. If you go for one week, you will leave campus on Friday, Feb. 25, and return to campus on Sunday night, March 5. Or, you can go for the 2nd week (March 5 to March 12). If you go for 2 weeks you will leave campus on Friday Feb. 25. You can make other arrangements by consultation with the instructor. Your food and lodging will be paid for.
