Field Logistics, Ge121a, Fall 2011

This class may have field trips on the same weekends as other GPS Division classes if those classes are a prerequisite for Ge121a. For example Ge11a and Ge121a often have field trips on the same weekends, because no student should be enrolled in those two classes simultaneously. Please consider this when planning your course schedule.

Logistical information: We will map for a total of 9 days (three long weekends). We will be camping out in a remote area of the desert with no facilities.

The GPS Division will provide group camp gear (stoves, lanterns, tables, chairs, water jugs, ice chests, pots & pans, dishes). Students will need to bring their own food for camp meals each weekend (3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 2 dinners). We will have 1 or 2 food groups. In addition to the meals mentioned above, dinner on the first evening will be a fast food stop in Lenwood (near Barstow) - you can also bring your own picnic type dinner if you don't want to buy food. Dinner on the last evening can also be fast food on the way home, if the group chooses this.

Students are responsible for their own field equipment . If you need a tent or sleeping bag or foam pad, these can be rented from the Caltech Y.

Field Trip Dates (ALL FIELD TRIPS ARE REQUIRED):
 1. Thurs., Oct. 13 evening through Sunday, Oct. 16 evening.


 2. Thurs., Oct. 27 evening through Sunday, Oct. 30 evening.


 3. Thurs., Nov. 10 evening through Sunday, Nov. 13 evening.
