Work philosophy for Ge121a class, Fall 2011 Students are expected to work independently as much as possible. After a group hike to look at the stratigraphy on the first field day, each student will be assigned a map area to cover, which may not be the same for everybody in the class. Students are required to have their maps reviewed by the instructor every night (or failing that, early in the morning prior to the next day's work) so that their progress can be evaluated. On that basis the student will receive a recommendation for what to look at next and whether to go out to the field with the TA, the instructor, or another student as a mapping partner. Students are expected to turn in their field notebook and field map(s) to the instructor at the end of each 3-day mapping session ( before the vehicles leave the field area). These will be reviewed by the instructor and given back to the student the following morning (Monday).
