My Ph.D. research
involves the use of 2-D and 3-D dynamic numerical models to study Slab
Detachment, a subduction zone process during which part of a subducting plate
detaches. The main focus has been to
understand the controls on and effects of detachment due to the approach of a
spreading ridge to the trench and comparing results to observations in such
locations as Baja California, where detachment may have caused abandonment of
segments of the East Pacific Rise and anomalous (slab gap) volcanism along the
peninsula. Links to presented
