Service

I am currently involved in several service opportunities here at Caltech.
Nearly all of my volunteering (which is admittedly less than it should be)
is coordinated through the Caltech Y which is simply an amazing organization.
Without a doubt, the man who is responsible for the Y’s level of activity and
its influence on Caltech and the greater Pasadena community is Greg Fletcher.

Community service is an excellent diversion from the research and my other
avocational interests and I only wish I could participate in them more.

Currently, I lead expeditions to Reading to Kids on the second Saturday of each month.

Also, while it is more infrequent, I enjoy participating in Rebuilding Pasadena which is quite enjoyable
and involves helping elderly and differently-abled residents of Pasadena with home repairs.  This activity,
like many others, allows me to expand my already-sizable t-shirt collection.

Recently, I signed up for the RISE program and will begin tutoring in the winter/spring of 2008.

Also, I am the president of the Caltech Environmental Task Force
although I need to be a little more pro-active on that front.  One of the primary activities for this group
is Earth Day which we celebrate in April of each year.
