Research Interests

Dr. Tian is a research scientist with the AIRS atmospheric science group at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is also a visiting researcher at the Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Tian’s research expertise is tropical deep convection and its variability, particularly the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). He studies the MJO and its physical and chemical impacts on the global climate system through a combination of satellite/in-situ/reanalysis data analysis, and general circulation model and chemical transport model simulations.
