Research Experience

6/2002 - 8/2002  Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, AZ
Summer Research Assistant
Supervisors: D.G. Schleicher and L.M. Woodney
Examined the physical and chemical properties of comets.Studied jet structures in C/2001 A2. Determined production rates for Hale-Bopp using new Haser scalelengths.

5/2001 - 8/2001  Maria Mitchell Observatory, Nantucket, MA
Summer Research Assistant
Supervisor: V. Strelnitski
Looked for the 45 GHz hydrogen emission line in MWC349 with the Haystack Radio Telescope. Examined digital copies of glass photographic plates to determine if the digital images could be used for research.

5/1998 - 8/1998  Intel, Hillsboro, OR
Summer Research Assistant
Supervisor: D. Beckwith
Studied control groups to develop new software and hardware with user-friendly designs. Beta tested a multimedia applications program..

Teaching and Outreach Experience

8/2001-5/2003 Reed College; Portland, OR
Teaching Assistant, Introductory Physics Lab
Supervised and graded a lab section for introductory physics. Set up lab benches, and supplemented the lab manual with lectures and hand outs.

8/2001-5/2003 Reed College; Portland, OR
Physics Tutor, Science Center
Tutor physics to first and second year physics students in a group setting. Tutoring sessions can be conference style or one-on-one.

5/2001-8/2001 Maria Mitchell Observatory; Nantucket, MA
Tour Guide
Conducted daytime public tours of the observatory. Operated telescopes and gave public lectures during open evening at the telescope.

8/1999-5/2001 Gresham High School; Gresham, OR
Assistant Speech and Debate Coach
