Steven Kidder will review how the Critical wedge model relate to geological observations.

Reading: Brandon, 2004, short chapter in van der Pluijm and Marshak entitled "The Cascadia Subduction Wedge: the role of accretion, uplift, and erosion" It is a short paper introducing the basics of critical wedge theory. More elaborated papers by Barr, Dhalen et al are available on my ftp.

I will then introduce the fold and thrust belt of northern Tian Shan.
