Fluorescent in situ hybridization image of an uncultured anaerobic methane oxidizing consortia recovered from a marine methane seep (Eel River Basin, CA). The red cells are Archaea from the ANME-2 group and the green stained cells are sulfate-reducing bacteria related to the Desulfosarcina.
