In-house ArcInfo Tutorials

What is a GIS?
A description of GIS technology.

Procedures for creating ArcInfo project directories
Guidelines for creating project directories and README files for ArcInfo projects.

In-house ArcInfo Symbolsets

Descriptions and display of the custom GPS Division ArcInfo geologic symbolsets
Symbolsets are collections of custom symbols which, in this case, are used to depict geographic features on maps. Four custom symbolsets exist within the Division for generating geologic faults, contacts, and structural axes; geologic markers, such as strike-and-dip; and color fill within lithologic units.

In-house ArcInfo Arc Macro Language (AML) Scripts

EPI_PLOT.AML
Plot earthquake epicenters using a symbol that varies linearly in size based on magnitude, and in color based on depth.

GMT_TO_ARC.AML
Read a GMT file containing X/Y line coordinates and produce a line coverate with the GMT attribute.

LINE_ON_LINE.AML
Construct a point coverage wherein the points are at the intersections of arcs from two input line coverages. Move values from a specific attribute in the target line coverage to the new point coverage.

TIGER_GMT.AML
Convert TIGER Line File-derived coverages to GMT-formatted ASCII files. The AML reads road arcs and names from the "tigerline" coverage and writes the coordinates and names out to a file that can be read by GMT.

DLG_TO_ROAD-COV.AML
Convert 1:100,000 USGS DLG road files to coverages.

DLG_TO_HYDRO-COV.AML
Convert 1:100,000 USGS DLG hydrology files to coverages.

DLG-RD-COV_TO_GMT.AML
Read road arcs and attributes from a coverage - derived from DLG road files - and write the coordinates of specific road features out to a series of files that can be read by GMT.

DLG-HY-COV_TO_GMT.AML
Read hydrology arcs and attributes from a coverage - derived from DLG hydrology files - and write the coordinates of specific hydrology features out to a series of files that can be read by GMT.

EPI_READ.AML
Generate a point coverage that represents the locations of earthquake epicenters and populate the point attribute table with event attributes.

In-house ArcInfo Tools

EDU: Custom editing menu tools for ARCEDIT
Introduces the "EDU" editing menu system available within ArcInfo.

Relevant Publications

ArcGMT: A suite of tools for conversion between ARC/INFO and Generic Mapping Tools (GMT)
A paper which describes tools for converting GMT grids to ARC/INFO grids and ARC/INFO grids and coverages to formats that GMT can read.
